MyEnergi Libbi Retrofit & Solar PV Repair – Case Study

At CS Electrical & Renewables, we were contacted by a homeowner in St Stephen experiencing a low RISO fault that prevented their solar inverter from generating energy. What began as a fault-finding visit became a full solar PV repair and MyEnergi Libbi battery retrofit, transforming the system into a safer, more efficient, and future-proof energy solution.

Diagnosing the Solar PV Fault

Upon inspection, we identified multiple issues with the original Feed-in Tariff (FIT) solar installation, particularly on the DC side. Roof access was required, so scaffolding was arranged to safely assess the system.

Issues Found

  • Poorly crimped MC4 connectors

  • Connectors resting on roof tiles in water and debris

  • Cabling not secured to mounting rails

  • Insulation fault causing inverter shutdown

After removing the bottom row of panels, we immediately located the problem.

Solar PV Repairs & System Restoration

We carried out the following corrective work:

  • Re-terminated and correctly crimped MC4 connectors

  • Secured cabling to mounting rails

  • Cleaned and protected connections from moisture

  • Reinstalled PV modules

Post-repair testing showed clear insulation readings, and the system resumed normal energy production.

MyEnergi Libbi Battery Retrofit Installation

The client was interested in adding battery storage, so we installed a 3.68kW MyEnergi Libbi with 2 × 5.12kWh battery modules, providing cost-effective energy storage for excess solar generation.

Benefits of the Libbi Retrofit

  • Stores surplus solar energy for evening use

  • Reduces reliance on grid electricity

  • Improves return on existing solar investment

  • Budget-friendly upgrade for FIT systems

Improved Solar Performance with Dual MPPT

The MyEnergi Libbi’s dual MPPT inputs allowed us to split the solar array into two strings, improving performance compared to the original inverter and optimising generation throughout the day.

Accessible Garage Installation

The original inverter was located in a loft void, making maintenance difficult. We relocated the new system to the client’s garage, providing:

  • Easier access for servicing

  • Improved safety

  • Better system monitoring

Backup Power for Grid Outages

We installed an RCD-protected double socket to the left of the inverter, providing up to 3kW of backup power during grid outages.

Backup Power Advantages

  • Operates from solar or battery (if charged)

  • Keeps essential devices running

  • Cost-effective alternative to full home backup systems

  • Ideal for short power cuts

With careful energy management, the system can continue operating even when the grid is unavailable.
