Tesla PowerWall 3 Installation
For this domestic project in Newquay, Cornwall, we were asked to provide a quote to meet the clients energy needs, as well as provide the best solution for full home backup in the event of a grid outage.
For this we proposed the installation of a 13.5kWh Tesla Powerwall 3 storage battery with the Tesla Backup Gateway, and a 7.83kWp East/West PV array.
The Tesla Powerwall 3 has a built in Solar PV inverter, meaning a more efficient use of PV energy, and less components to install.
Due to the clients east/west facing roof we were able to install 9 x 435W JA Solar BiFacial PV Modules on each elevation, to ensure maximum generation throughout the day.
We fixed the PV modules to the roof using Renusol roof hooks and rails, noticing the existing tiles to accolade the hooks.
At the heart of this installation is the powerhouse, the Tesla Powerwall.
1 x 13.5kWh monster battery, which is are not only charged by the panels, but by the clients of peak tariff, to ensure that maximum savings can be utilised to power the clients home.
The battery charges from the solar excess, and also from grid at 5kW, and discharges into the home at 5kW.
One of the best features of the Tesla Powerwall 3 however is the facility to operate the home in a power outage.
Not only that, but it allows the inverter to operate in islanding mode, producing energy to charge the battery and power the home even when the power remains off.
Monitoring of the system is provided by the Tesla app, providing data for every aspect of the installation.
Smart data analysis allows the Tesla app to charge the battery from the grid using STORM WATCH if it is aware of an incoming storm or poor weather.
This allows the home to stay powered should the storm knock out the grid supply.
This was a great project to work on, and our client is very happy with the system we have designed for them which is future proof, and will allow indefinite operation even without the grid in operation!
